When Your Body Sends You Messages (And You’re Not Sure You Want to Listen)
I had one of those “right… okay then” moments this week.
Within 24 hours:
Skin cancer check revealed a barnacle
Prescribed bifocal glasses
Bowel screening test arrived in the mail
And I just sat there thinking…
Is this what we’re doing now?
It was a bit of a wake-up call.
Not in a dramatic way.
Just that quiet realisation that things are shifting.
And if I’m honest… I know so many of you are feeling the same.
You’re doing all the right things.
But:
You’re waking exhausted
Your sleep is off
Your energy isn’t what it used to be
Your body just feels different
So in this podcast episode, I talk about:
Why your body starts sending these signals
Why sleep is often the first thing to unravel
What actually helps (without overhauling your life)
And what I’m working on next to help you fix it
This is just the beginning of a deeper conversation we need to have.
Because this isn’t random.
And it’s not something you just have to “put up with.”

Hello, I'm Kylie from The Hormone Hub, and if you've been around this week, you'll know that the Hormone Hub podcast is back. And I'm so glad you're here. And today I wanted to do something a little bit different, a little more personal, a little bit more real life, and also very relevant to what so many of you, and also me, are going through right now. Because lately it feels like my body has been trying to get my attention, and honestly, I'm not sure I've been, you know, ready to listen.
So I think the universe is trying to tell me something. Now, let me paint you a picture. In the space of about 24 hours, I went for a regular skin check. [00:01:00] So I, last year I had a couple of squamous cell carcinomas cut out. So yeah, it was no big deal. We got them early, you know, big chunks of skin out and lots of stitches. And I've always had skin where I've been told, oh no, you don't have the, the type of skin. So I've sort of been skimmed over, and then went and questioned these two sort of weird looking scabby things that never quite healed. And sure enough, you know, I tested positive for skin cancer. So ever since then I've been slightly paranoid and I've been going, you know, quite regularly and I've sort of presented this thing on my leg and was told it was a barnacle. And I was like, what? I'm not a boat! Anyway, so it turns out we can be boats and we can have barnacles.
So get your skin checked. Then I basically went from the skin cancer check to the optometrist, where he told me ever so lovely that it was time for bifocals. Now I've been [00:02:00] juggling multiple pairs of glasses for years, so it's no great shock, but still. So, so far we've ticked off barnacles and bifocals.
And then when I got home, the real kicker was my bowel screening test waiting for me in the mail. So bowels, bifocals, and barnacles. What a, what a combo. And I was just sort of sitting there thinking, okay, is this what we're doing now? Is this where we're at? You know, 'cause I'm sure, like you, I still think I'm 30 in my head, you know, like 35. That'd be a nice place to stick. Uh, but no. So it was sort of like one of those moments that I realized that yeah, I'm kind of like middle aged now, not in my thirties anymore, neither are you, and our bodies are changing whether we like it or not. Things are shifting. And I know so many of you are feeling this too, and we are doing all the right things. We are eating well, we are exercising well. We're still showing up in life. We're still showing up for work. None of my [00:03:00] friends are even close to retirement. But something feels a bit off and, you know, when those little signs start to show up it can be really subtle at first, and then it's not. And I think this is the part that doesn't get talked about enough. So, you know, these moments, they're not just random. They really are feedback and our body's constantly communicating with us. But we've been taught sort of like programmed to override this.
We've been programmed to push through, we've been programmed to keep going. Have another coffees. Sleep less because, you know, we're, we're wired at night, so let's, that's a really good time to fold the washing or start a new project. We push and push and push and we do more until suddenly it stops working.
And this is where the point where a lot of women come to me because they say they can't quite put their finger on it. I don't feel like myself anymore. I'm really cranky and I feel really, my moods feel really unpredictable. I'm exhausted, but I just can't get to sleep. [00:04:00] I haven't changed anything but I'm putting on weight. And my brain doesn't work the same way. Like that one I can really relate to. And here's the thing, it's not just in our head and it's not just, you know, because we are getting older. It's a massive hormonal shift that we're going through and our body just needs a different kind of support right now.
So not more effort, just a bit of strategy.
So for me, a big one has always been sleep. So sleep has been my absolute nemesis. And if you are struggling with sleep, you'll know exactly what I mean. So you are exhausted when you go to bed, and then you are wide awake at two or three o'clock in the morning or you know, you wake up feeling like you haven't slept at all.
And here's what I want you to understand. So sleep isn't just about being tired. So sleep is hormonal. So when your sleep is off, everything is harder. Energy tanks, your cravings go up, your stress tolerance goes down, your mood [00:05:00] becomes reactive, your body holds onto weight. And what I see all the time is women trying to fix everything else before fixing sleep. But sleep is the lever that often sort of shifts everything. And the most frustrating part is just when you think you've got it sorted, it changes again. So it's honestly like having a newborn baby. You get into a rhythm and then your body goes, yep, nope. Now we're doing something different, which can be frustrating as all hell.
So I wanna talk to you about a few things that can actually make a difference. So things that aren't complicated, they're not overwhelming, just those fundamentals done properly. So first up, we want to get that blood sugar stability happening at night. So if you are under eating during the day, so if you are missing breakfast, living on coffee until lunchtime or you are skipping meals, your body's gonna wake [00:06:00] you up at night because it's looking for that blood sugar lift. So I'm gonna talk more about this in coming episodes.
Next up is nervous system support. So if we are going from full speed all day, we're on the go, we're at the gym, we're at work, we're running around after kids, we come home and we are cooking dinner, we're doing all the things. So if you're going full speed, just doing life and then straight into bed, your body hasn't had a chance to down regulate, and, we'll also have a look at what that looks like.
Another big factor is the caffeine timing. So that afternoon coffee, that chocolate before you go to bed, it matters more than you think. So if you are particularly sensitive, if you suffer anxiety, if you are craving chocolate or craving sugar, or craving coffee, we really want to think about what we are doing.
Alcohol. Yep. Sorry to go there, but, you know, it's a thing and even a small amount can disrupt our sleep cycles. [00:07:00] So it's, you know, does its job in we might fall asleep faster, but we don't stay asleep.
And consistency is a big one. So your body loves rhythm. It thrives on predictability. So we want to get you into that rhythm to kind of like match that sleep wake cycle or, or create a healthy sleep wake cycle if you don't have one..
Now, none of this is extreme, but it's often inconsistent and that's where the gap is. So what are the habits that we need to bring in so we can do all of these things consistently? So this is something I've been working on behind the scenes, because I know how many of you are struggling with this.
So I'm putting together a really simple, structured way to reset your sleep. No overwhelm, no complicated routines, no unrealistic expectations. Just clear step-by-step approach to help you fall asleep faster, stay asleep, and wake up [00:08:00] feeling like yourself again. So keep an eye out for that, because this is gonna be one of those things that changes everything.
And when we sleep well, we have more energy, we feel better, and everything is easier, right. So if you are sitting here thinking, okay, this is me. I need help with this. There are, if you don't wanna wait, there are a few ways we can work together. You can book in for a one-on-one consultation. This is where we'll actually look at what's going on for you specifically.
So I do have space in the next couple of weeks that I'm opening up. Or you can have a look at my signature program, the hormone code. So it used to be called the Well Balanced Woman, it's now the hormone code. It's sort of like a revamped version. And this is where we look at the full picture. So we look at your sleep, your energy, your weight, your mood, your digestion, all of it, because it's never just one thing. So we really wanna take that holistic view. And if you want more personalized support, there's also a VIP option where you and I work [00:09:00] one-on-one. We work really closely together.
I'll review your blood work. We'll map out a plan specifically for you. Because by this stage you don't need more information. You just need some clarity and a plan that actually works in your life.
So if this resonated with you make sure you're following the podcast. We are on iTunes, Spotify, YouTube, google maybe. Is that still a thing? Google podcast? It's probably called something else. But we're on all the platforms and we're gonna be diving deeper into all of this over the next few episodes. And I promise this doesn't have to be your new normal.
So yeah, thanks for listening. Please subscribe, follow, share with another friend who's living the dream with you, and I'll see you in the next episode.
